Cretan Pot Retailer - Commercial

Pots and Pithoi was established in 1985 and for the last 30 years has sold mainly traditional antique pots, olive vessels and ancient storage jars. The terracotta pots are sourced from a small family business in Crete that use traditional & ancient methods. Top grade clay is hand mixed and hand- thrown traditionally on the wheel, exclusively for Pots & Pithoi, and then fired using olive pips and grape seeds to fuel the kilns. This creates naturally patinated and frost resistant pots.

In 2017, the new owner of Pots & Pithoi wanted to introduce a more contemporary range of pots. The aim was to highlight the quality and beautiful design of the new range of pots and create more more of a sculpture garden feel than a pot showroom, and hence commissioned a re-design of the existing site.

The brief was to design a unique space that has good circulation throughout for all levels of access, and that focuses on the experience of the visitor, as he/she explores the garden.

Seasonal planting interest was important to encourage year round visits, and to cater for the use of the site for group visits and events, including evening events.

The design had to include the flexibility to display pots in multiple ways, giving the visitors inspiration for their own garden.
